Chicago, IL - NavtaSchulz Gallery is pleased to present New Black and White, a solo show of new work by Chicago artist Michael Hopkins. The series of new drawings and prints is both a continuation and a departure for Hopkins.

There are seven new works on slate; ghostly images of imagined x-rays rendered in ink and pigment. The departure comes in the form of a new series of archival digital inkjet prints. Each piece is unique: a run of 1/1. Hopkins’ work largely concerns itself with architecture. The x-rays are a form of creative human design, whereas the prints are an exploration of linear shapes. Essentially they examine how a repetitive shape creates space. Hopkins’ minimal compositions carry with them elegance and grace that may be lost were it not for their diminutive scale. No work in Hopkins’ oeuvre exceeds 12 inches by 12 inches. The scale forces intimate examination on the part of the viewer.
